Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk featured on the March 20 episode of the “What The Football” podcast and accused the Falcons of “the most blatant case of tampering” he has ever seen.
“Tampering is an ongoing issue in the NFL. Conversations occur when agents and team officials meet face to face,” Florio explained. “But there’s a certain amount of caution that is used, so you don’t immediately announce to the world that you tampered with this individual. And the Falcons’ pursuit of Kirk Cousins is the most apparent example of tampering I’ve ever witnessed.”
Florio accused the Falcons of ‘tampering within tampering’ by having Kirk Cousins recruit Darnell Mooney.
Florio did not stop there in his claims against the Falcons, who will pay Cousins $180 million over four years, with $100 million completely guaranteed.
He further accused the team of using its new friendship with Cousins to persuade the quarterback to utilize his power to bring former Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney to Atlanta.
“Someone enlisted [Cousins] to recruit Darnell Mooney from the Bears,” he said. “So, you have tampering within tampering. You have various levels of tampering. [Cousins] just discussed it openly, as if they didn’t care. “It was so obvious.”
