Antonio Brown, a former All-Pro wide receiver, is no stranger to controversy.
On Friday, he found himself embroiled in yet another issue after posting a questionable message on social media. The tweet on X, previously known as Twitter, appeared to make fun of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s heart arrest during the 2022 season.
Later Friday morning, Hamlin reacted, sparking a profanity-laced back-and-forth between the two.
“Did you just DM me on Monday?” “I guess you’re playing lame games on Twitter with my situation because I’m not DMing you back,” Hamlin wrote. “I pray to God that I never become a burned-out old brain like you. I used to look up to you. It’s sad. Talk about a clone, bring the real AB back!”
The defensive back also posted a message with what appears to be a plethora of direct messages from Brown, as well as a note of displeasure.
“You’ve been in my direct messages for over a year, talking to yourself. Hamlin stated, “You were meant to be an example setter. “Now you’re the weirdest person we know! Get off Twitter and do some work with children or something. #PrayForAB”
It is understandable that Hamlin “used to look up to” Brown.
The seven-time Pro Bowler played the first nine seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, from 2010 to 2018. Hamlin is from McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, and spent five seasons at the University of Pittsburgh from 2016 to 2020.
Hamlin was originally picked by the Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and appeared in 14 games as a rookie.
The 26-year-old suffered a heart attack during Buffalo’s Week 17 “Monday Night Football” game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2, 2023. He spent most of last year rehabilitating.
Hamlin’s eventual return to game action last season was one of the year’s feel-good stories, but some people, including Brown, continue to make jokes about the terrifying scenario.
