HUGE CUT: Falcons Release Their Top Offensive lineman

Justin Shaffer, a former Georgia Bulldog offensive lineman, has reportedly been dismissed by the Atlanta Falcons. Shaffer has spent the last two seasons on the Falcons’ practice squad, although he has never played in a regular season game for Atlanta.

Shaffer is now an NFL free agent. He is eligible to join another team’s practice squad or active roster.

In the 2022 NFL draft, Atlanta selected Shaffer in the sixth round with the 190th pick. Shaffer’s pick marked the Falcons’ first draft of a Georgia Bulldog in eleven years. The Falcons also selected tight end John FitzPatrick in 2022. FitzPatrick remains on the Falcons’ roster, as does former Georgia Bulldogs tight end Charlie Woerner, who recently signed a free agent contract with the team.

Shaffer started at left guard in all 15 Georgia games during the 2021 college football season and was named to the All-SEC second team by the Associated Press and coaches. A 6-foot-4, 330-pound guard is still striving for consistent playing time in the NFL.
