Buffalo Bills defender Damar Hamlin fired back at Antonio Brown after the former NFL wide out launched an unusual social media attack.
Brown posted on X in response to a question about a “fictional character’s death that you have not gotten over.” The NFL legend answered with a photo of Hamlin, an apparent reference to the strange conspiracy theory that emerged following the Bills safety’s on-field collapse in January 2023, claiming he had died and been replaced by a look-alike “clone.”
Hamlin took issue with Brown’s post, naming the former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver in a viral feud.
Damar Hamlin: ‘I Used to Look Up to You’
Hamlin responded to Brown’s statement by alleging that the wide receiver was furious because Hamlin had not responded to his private messages. Hamlin slammed Brown as “burnt out” and countered the “clone” accusation.
“You just [direct message] me on Monday?” Hamlin wrote about X. “I guess you’re playing stupid Twitter games with my predicament because I haven’t DM’d you back. I pray God doesn’t let me become a burnt-out old brain like you. I used to look up to you, and now I’m really sad. Talk about a clone, bring the real AB back!”
Hamlin continued to be disappointed in Brown, telling him to log off social media and do something more productive with his time.
“Been in my DM for over a year, talking to yourself,” Hamlin wrote. “You were meant to be an example setter. Now you’re the weirdest person we know! Get off Twitter and do some work with children or something. #PrayForAB”
The two’s spat went viral, with others jumping in to criticize Brown for reviving the conspiracy theory.
Brown is no stranger to controversy, dating back to his final seasons in the NFL. He was suspended for eight games in 2020 for violating the league’s personal conduct code, and another three games in 2021 for falsifying his COVID-19 vaccination status.
Brown’s NFL career came to an unexpected end in January 2022, when he pulled off his jersey and walked off the field during a game against the New York Jets. Brown was eventually released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Brown’s difficulties persisted after his NFL career ended. In October 2023, he was arrested in Florida for suspected failure to pay child support.
Damar Hamlin takes on conspiracy theorists.
This isn’t the first time Hamlin has addressed the conspiracy claims that developed following his on-field breakdown against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2, 2023. Despite going into cardiac arrest after taking a severe hit to the chest and having to be transported to the hospital, Hamlin recovered well and returned to Buffalo’s active roster last season.
Nearly three weeks after the incident, when he had been released from the hospital and was in the early stages of his rehabilitation, Hamlin posted a photo of himself standing in front of a mural of his image. In the caption, Hamlin typed the term “clone.”
