Rafael Nadal continues to prepare for what could be his final clay court season, with the Spaniard set to play the Monte-Carlo Masters in the coming weeks and a full swing before retiring later this year, injuries pending. According to John Lloyd, he can expect a pleasant send-off, but Roland Garros is improbable.
The ex-husband of Chris Evert, former player and current pundit and broadcaster Lloyd, indicated that he sees that Nadal will undoubtedly win several matches during his return to action on his favorite surface, but that the Roland Garros crown is not in his plans.
He stated that he is unlikely to have the time to play the tennis he needs to compete with the top, and that it is largely due to earlier injuries, with Nadal not playing since Brisbane at the turn of the year, with numerous aborted comebacks. Tickets for Roland Garros sold quickly, perhaps due to Nadal’s decision to end his career at some time, but they may be disappointed if Lloyd’s forecast comes true in the months ahead. The proof will undoubtedly be in the pudding when Monte-Carlo arrives shortly, followed by Madrid.
“I believe we will receive a nice send-off. I don’t think he [Rafael Nadal] will get in there; he certainly understands he isn’t hurt, but he gets himself in good form. “I see him winning some matches, but I don’t see him winning the French Open 2024,” Lloyd told Tennis Channel Inside In.
“I don’t think he’ll have the time to play the tennis he has to. However, I believe Rafa will give us a nice send-off. I hope it’s a nice one, though.”
