SHOCKING MOVE: Denver Broncos Making a Shocking Blockbuster Trade Offer To Land QB for Sean Payton

The Denver Broncos’ quarterback quest has not ended.

General Manager George Paton and Head Coach Sean Payton have indicated that another quarterback would be brought in to compete with Jarrett Stidham for the starting job next season.

It is unknown in which way they will go. However, with the Broncos’ continued interest in the upcoming crop of quarterbacks, speculation about a possible move up to land one has only grown.

NFL Draft 2024: J.J. McCarthy's buzz could affect quarterback picture - Silver And Black Pride

In his most recent mock draft, ESPN’s Matt Miller predicted a hypothetical move up to No. 4.

“With quarterbacks going 1-2-3 to start the draft, I could see the Broncos getting on the phone and sending a package to Arizona for the No. 4 pick to get QB4,” Miller tweeted on the day of the draft. “The deal is molded like the deal the 49ers made in 2021 to move up for Trey Lance, and yes, it’s an expensive trade package.”

The Broncos get:

– 2024 first-round pick (4th overall)

Cardinals receive:

– 2024 first-round pick (number 12 overall)
– 2025 first-round pick.
– 2026 first-round choice.

Payton praised Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort’s good position, as he sits with a pick that several clubs are expected to pursue.

At a news conference on March 20, Ossenfort stated that he is “open” to doing business.

J.J. McCarthy may be more athletic. Drew Brees

NFL Draft Rumors: Multiple Teams Prefer J.J. McCarthy Over Drake Maye
“If Broncos coach Sean Payton lands his quarterback, no one will care much about the cost to move up to get him,” Miller said in a statement.

“McCarthy is a tough, instinctive, and accurate quarterback who has above-average mobility and makes outstanding pocket plays. I’m not saying he’s Drew Brees, but the style of play would be very similar to what Payton operated in New Orleans.

McCarthy, who led the Michigan Wolverines to a National Championship this past season, has consistently been compared to Brees before the Broncos trade speculations surfaced.

Lance Zierlein, an NFL.com draft analyst, praised Brees’ ability to process. But he said that the former Saints standout lacked McCarthy’s athleticism.

“McCarthy is relatively inexperienced with just 28 starts in college, but he left Michigan with a 27-1 record,” Miller stated in an email. “He completed 72.1% of his throws last season and threw only four interceptions, and his third-down QBR of 86.7 ranked 11th in the nation. McCarthy is a sure shot to beat Jarrett Stidham and start Week 1 for Denver.

That final item is critical, especially if the Broncos trade that much resources to get a quarterback.

Payton has previously talked highly of Stidham, expressing his opinion that the former fourth-round choice of the New England Patriots may be a starter someday.

Payton did, however, express reservations about Stidham during the AFC coaches breakfast during the NFL owners meeting in Orlando. Payont continued to acknowledge potential competition for Stidham while acknowledging they were still unsure of his ceiling.

The Broncos’ actions speak loudly amid trade rumors.
The Broncos have had officials at every pro day, but not always on the offensive side of the ball, and never with Payton present. Payton admitted missing McCarthy’s pro day.

However, he later conducted a private workout with the quarterback. The Broncos were also planning a similar meeting with LSU’s Jayden Daniels. McCarthy, however, has appeared to be the Broncos’ most consistent and serious potential interest.

George Paton, Denver Broncos

Payton also called the prospect of the Broncos making a deal “realistic.”

Aside from the Brees parallels, Paton has consistently expressed interest in the quarterback. He declared intentions to meet with him at the scouting combine and went to his pro day exercise.

That is by no means a guarantee that the Broncos will want McCarthy. And it could all be a smokescreen.

This is the time of year when clubs spread falsehoods to mask their intentions. However, the Broncos’ interest mirrors the reviews McCarthy has received since the season finished and he began the pre-draft exercise and interview process.
