The 2024 free agent safety class was one of the most skilled in recent memory, and the infusion of high-impact players caused talented starters such as Quandre Diggs to be overlooked. Diggs entered free agency at the wrong time, as the former sixth-round pick struggled in 2023. Starting in all 17 games, the Texas product concluded the season with one interception, 95 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and a low 55.1 PFF grade.

Quandre Diggs, who is entering his 30th season, may not find a free agent home after such a dismal campaign. However, his 2023 performance does not represent the player he once was. Diggs had three consecutive Pro Bowl berths from 2020 to 2022, and his film demonstrates that he deserved each of them.

Teams do not appear to be interested in Quandre Diggs, implying that the free agent might be a good low-risk, medium-reward deal for the right team. Dan Pizzuta of The 33rd Team believes the team should be the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints make sense as a free agent destination for Quandre Diggs for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, the club requires a deep safety, as Tyrann Mathieu is far better near the line of scrimmage at this stage in his career. With Marcus Maye sidelined, the Saints need another starting safety if they hope to win the NFC South.

While Justin Simmons is the top free agent safety on the market, the Saints only have enough contract room to sign Quandre Diggs. The franchise cannot afford a top free agent because it has avoided rebuilding for years. Diggs may be finished, but a more scheme-friendly situation could bring out the best in him. Given that he is unlikely to cost much, New Orleans should sign him and see what he has left in the tank.

Of course, Pizzuta’s essay is pure guesswork, and there are many of teams who could use a safety. Quandre Diggs may not be a guy who can win games on his own, but the free agent is an excellent option for a one-year, prove-it contract with minimal salary cap impact.
