Following Marcus Maye’s departure, the New Orleans Saints are looking for a safety, and Dan Pizzuta of The 33rd Team believes Quandre Diggs might be a good fit.
Diggs was released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason and remains unsigned.
The 31-year-old is coming off a 2023 season in which he played every game and recorded 95 tackles, an interception, and five passes defended, indicating he is still effective.
Diggs is also just two years removed after making his third consecutive Pro Bowl participation in 2022, where he recorded 71 tackles, four interceptions, a forced fumble, and seven passes defended.
Diggs, who attended the University of Texas, was taken by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
He spent the first four and a half years of his career with the Lions, but he did not earn a starting spot until his third season, when he had 55 tackles, a sack, three interceptions, a forced fumble, and nine passes defended. The following year, Diggs had 78 tackles, three interceptions, eight passes defensed, and a defensive touchdown.
Detroit subsequently traded Diggs to the Seahawks in the middle of the 2019 season. The following season, Diggs broke out, recording 64 tackles, five interceptions, and ten passes defended on his way to his first Pro Bowl selection. Then, in 2020, Diggs recorded 94 stops, five interceptions, and seven passes defended.
The Houston native may not be the same player he once was, but there is no doubt he can still be a valuable member of a team’s secondary, and for a team like the Saints, who desperately need a safety to complement Tyrann Mathieu, Diggs may be an excellent addition.
This past season, New Orleans finished 9-8 and missed the playoffs.
