BREAKING NEWS: Lamar Jackson Shares His Thought as He Sent Head Coach And GM Eric DeCosta Draft Advice Amids Potential Deals

The Ravens are preparing for the draft after a free agent offseason in which numerous starters left, and they need multiple rookies who can make an impact in 2024. The team’s front office and coaches are undoubtedly key actors in the constant scouting process, but they are not alone.

According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, quarterback Lamar Jackson has spoken with head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Eric DeCosta about receiver and tight end prospects in the 2024 class. This is the second consecutive offseason that the reigning MVP has done so.

“He is looking at guys now,” Harbaugh stated during the league meetings (via Hensley). “We agree on a few guys. We haven’t disagreed on anyone yet. “We’re sharing our vision.”

Jackson, a resident of Pompano Beach, Florida, has shared his thoughts on local pass-catching potential. In the instance of last year’s draft, this meant backing Zay Flowers’ first-round selection. The latter (who grew up in Fort Lauderdale) had the most prolific rookie season in franchise history, with a 77-855-5 record. South Florida Ravens links at the position extend back to Marquise Brown, Baltimore’s top choice in 2019.

The Ravens own the No. 30 pick in 2024. After losing three offensive line starters this offseason, a decision to add reinforcements up front would be unsurprising. Edge rusher and cornerback have also been mentioned as possible positional targets for the team’s first pick. Still, a handful of wideouts will be available late on Day 1, and Jackson’s thoughts on those in his backyard will be considered.

Other franchise quarterbacks have varying degrees of influence in NFL roster decisions. In the case of the Ravens, Jackson is given control over the overall direction of the offence. As a result, it’s unsurprising that his thoughts on local pass-catching prospects will be considered. Baltimore is in need of at least a depth addition at receiver, and it will be interesting to see whether Jackson’s recommendations impact their decision.
