ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter says the Washington Commanders will take quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall choice in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Schefter’s prior comments about supporters ordering Daniels jerseys only strengthened his prediction.
Daniels is up against North Carolina’s Drake Maye and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy for the second pick. Despite the team’s efforts to keep the pick a secret, signs point to Daniels joining the Commanders.
Schefter believes Daniels has the characteristics the organization is searching for and is well-regarded in the scouting world.
Daniels will meet with the Commanders for an overnight visit next week. In his last Heisman Trophy-winning season, Daniels completed 72.2% of his throws for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and only four interceptions.
He also carried for 1,134 yards and ten touchdowns, showcasing his big-play potential. Pro Football Network draft expert Ian Cummings believes Daniels is a top-15 talent in the 2024 NFL Draft and a future franchise quarterback.
The 2024 NFL Draft will begin on April 25, and the Commanders will get the second overall choice. Washington has been looking for a franchise quarterback for several years, and the draft provides an opportunity to obtain one.
While Caleb Williams is likely to be the top overall pick, the Commanders have several additional alternatives, including Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy.
Schefter’s recent statements on a podcast suggest that the Commanders are interested in Daniels, despite the fact that his visit was not without incident.
Nonetheless, Daniels’ strong statistics and dual-threat qualities make him a desirable candidate for Washington. Fans have reason to be excited if he is selected.
