It was amusing, to say the least, to see some in the media tie themselves into knots to congratulate the Commanders on bringing four top quarterback prospects in for visits on the same day.
In my opinion, it makes no sense.
What’s the point of having Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy, and Michael Penix present on the same day? The only argument we’ve seen is that they want to watch how the four interact.
Why? Who cares? When will the four of them ever get together again?
It may be a fascinating sociological experiment, but it misses the opportunity to get to know each player personally.
Our hypothesis is that owner Josh Harris wanted to be present during the visits, thus they were scheduled on a day when he was accessible. That’s only a guess. I wouldn’t expect the Commanders to admit it because doing so would acknowledge Harris’s substantial influence in the final decision.
He does.
He has already attended meetings with quarterbacks at the Scouting Combine. This is a huge decision, and he plans to play an active role in making it. But he also wants to be able to claim with confidence that his football team made the decision.
This is not a criticism. It is an attempt to make sense of the nonsensical. If the rationale for bringing all four of them in on the same day isn’t Harris’ desire to set aside one day to meet with them all, there’s no reason to do it this way.
