Former Syracuse receiver Damien Alford committed to Utah on Wednesday, marking the university’s first transfer portal commitment of the spring season. This is a significant acquisition for the Utes, as it adds a towering presence and effective player to the receiving corps.
He proclaimed his committment on Twitter.
Alford, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound pass catcher, brings dynamic ability and production to Utah’s receiving corps. He led the Orange with 33 receptions for 610 yards and three touchdowns as a redshirt junior last season, after catching 20 passes for 429 yards and two scores in 2022. Overall, Alford concluded his Syracuse career with 67 receptions for 1,291 yards and seven touchdowns.
As a transfer portal prospect, Alford has yet to be appraised. He did, however, get an 85 three-star rating out of high school as part of the 2020 recruiting class. As a prospect, he received 18 offers, 15 of which came from Power Five league programs. He’s appeared in numerous games for the Orange over the last three seasons, proving to be an impactful presence on the outside who has definitely underperformed his high school rating.
He joins Dorian Singer, Taeshaun Lyons, David Washington, and Zacharyus Williams as new faces in Utah’s receiving corps. More significantly, he will add another weapon to ace quarterback Cameron Rising’s throwing attack. He will join the program as a senior, with the option of redshirting.
Alford is the first addition to the post-spring recruiting cycle, as he has committed. Utah will remain active in the spring cycle, looking to bolster the roster in preparation for a run at the Big 12 Conference championship.
