The Houston Texans were definitely holding their breath after learning that one of their standout rookies had been shot early Sunday morning. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, Tank Dell, a rookie wideout and SMU product, was shot in Sanford, Florida. Dell, an innocent bystander, became the victim of a mass shooting. Dell was hit by a gunshot during crossfire but is expected to recover fully. The Texans issued a statement on Sunday about the situation.

The Houston Texans issued a statement on Sunday following reports that wideout Tank Dell was shot at a nightclub in the early hours of the morning. Dell, a third-round pick in 2023, put up impressive stats before sustaining a season-ending injury.
“We were informed that Tank Dell was the victim of a shooting in Sanford, Florida last night. He received a small wound but has been released from the hospital and is in excellent spirits. We are in communication with him and his family and will offer further information as needed, but we ask that you kindly respect his privacy during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those engaged in the disaster.
During a Cabana Live Event, ten persons had non-life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred after midnight on Saturday, and the perpetrator was identified as a 16-year-old. According to Fox 26, the gunman was detained on charges of attempted homicide, discharge of a firearm on public grounds, and possession of a firearm by a child, among others.
Dell had a terrific rookie year with Tank. Dell, a great at SMU before being selected in the third round by the Houston Texans in the 2023 NFL draft, shone as a rookie last season. After a poor first game, Dell had 12 receptions for 217 yards and two touchdowns over the next two games. Dell developed become a favourite of quarterback C.J. Stroud, catching six or more passes in six of his first ten professional games. However, the rookie sustained a season-ending lower-body injury in Week 11.
Dell, who missed the entire last stretch of the 2023 season, expects to be ready for the season beginning. Houston won the AFC South last season with a 10-7 record, its first under head coach DeMeco Ryans.
