Before we see Gerrit Cole on the mound, it might still be some time. However, the New York Yankees provided a good report on his condition on Wednesday.
The 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner hasn’t yet stepped onto the field this season. Inflammation of the elbow nerve has plagued him. This year, it has limited his advancements and kept him off the road.
The Yankees are having a great start, but they are definitely missing their ace. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com has released an update regarding Cole’s health.
Manager Aaron Boone informed Hoch that Territ Cole had a “heavy day” yesterday when it came to pitching. “He doesn’t know when Cole is scheduled to throw from a mound,” Boone continued. The Yankees captain would also not guess as to when he might be back.
That Cole is throwing at all is encouraging to hear. In recent weeks, he has seen some setbacks in that area. He doesn’t appear to be any closer to making a comeback, though.
Throughout his career, Cole has been among the top pitchers in all of Major League Baseball. Despite being a fantastic pitcher for a while in both the AL and the NL, Cole had never before won the Cy Young award. That changed in 2023. However, we won’t see the Yankee ace take the mound just yet until that elbow heals.
