In 2024, the defense of the Baltimore Ravens might still be developing.
If the Ravens are to make another long run at the Super Bowl, they may need to use free agency to acquire a reliable senior presence in the secondary after losing a number of important players, most notably veteran safety Geno Stone.
Marcus Williams would start with rising sensation Kyle Hamilton if the 2024 season started today. Hamilton is a talented individual in his own right.
But for a club that believes it can contend for the Super Bowl, improving at safety might be the final item to check before the September opener.
Micah Hyde Would Be a Perfect Fit for the Ravens
Micah Hyde, a former safety with the Buffalo Bills, would be an intriguing fit for the Ravens to improve the safety room.
Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports compiled a list of the top candidates for the remaining unsigned free agents, and he recommends that the Ravens add Hyde to strengthen the secondary.
According to Kerr, “the Ravens didn’t take a safety until pick No. 250 in this year’s draft.” “And, with Geno Stone leaving, could need more depth at the position. Marcus Williams and Kyle Hamilton are back there, although Baltimore has experience using three-safety sets.
In the event that Williams or Hamilton are injured, this is more of a luxury for Baltimore. Despite his deteriorating covering abilities, Hyde is an inherently strong defensive end player and leader. He would make a useful addition.
Hyde, who was selected twice for the Second Team All-Pro, has amassed 644 total tackles with 24 career interceptions in his first 11 seasons. He recently finished up a successful 2023 season with 54 tackles and two interceptions.
A defense that might be going through a bit of a transitional period in the upcoming season may find Hyde’s experience and versatility in the secondary to be a welcome addition.
