SHOCKING RETIREMENT: NFL and Dolphins Running Back Announces His Shocking Retirement Due Several Health Issues

On Sunday, after eight NFL seasons, veteran running back Duke Johnson announced his retirement via social media post.

Johnson, 30, wrote in an Instagram post,

“I’d like to thank each team for the opportunity to play and represent your company, as well as all of the fans who have supported me through the ups and downs. Thank you to all of my vets for showing me the ropes for free, and to all of my little bros for trusting me to be the veteran you can rely on; it meant a lot to me.

Duke Johnson Announces Retirement After Eight NFL Seasons

The Browns selected him in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft after he became the Miami Hurricanes’ all-time leading rusher.

With the Browns, he rushed 299 times for 1,286 yards and five touchdowns while also catching 235 passes for 2,170 yards and eight scores.

Johnson played almost four seasons with Cleveland, signing a three-year contract extension in 2018, before being moved to the Houston Texans prior to the 2019 season.

The experienced running back played for the Texans for two seasons before being released in 2021 and joining the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad in 2022. Later that season, he joined his hometown Miami Dolphins, and in 2022, he appeared in NFL games with the Buffalo Bills.

He concluded his NFL career with 2,265 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 4.3 yards per attempt.

Johnson captioned his Instagram image.

“I am officially retiring from the NFL. I hope I made a lasting impression on you that goes beyond football.
