The New Orleans Saints have seen several franchise icons leave the game in recent years, causing them to drift further away from their period of supremacy. Now, one of the team’s longest-tenured players and a multiple-time All-Pro pick may have taken his final NFL snap.
Drew Brees was the first Saints legend to go, followed quickly by running back Mark Ingram. While New Orleans has been able to fill some of the losses left by the exits of franchise legends, others have left enormous gaps in the starting lineup.
New Orleans had hoped to prevent this with offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk. Ramczyk, a three-time All-Pro selection and the 32nd overall choice in the 2017 NFL Draft, figures to have his NFL career finished before he takes a snap in his age-31 season.
Ramczyk’s potential career-ending injury was initially reported in December by NFL sources. The 6-foot-6 offensive tackle appeared in only 12 games last season due to a knee issue that has worsened over the past three years. He conceded in December that retirement was an option, but he needed to meet with doctors for additional evaluation. Unfortunately, retirement appears to be the most likely outcome.
