RETIREMENT UPDATE: Dolphins Top Experinced Wide Receiver Announces His Sudden Retirement – Such a Big Loss

Tyreek Hill’s first two seasons in Miami won him back-to-back All-Pro honours, and he averaged more over 100 yards per game for the Dolphins.

Hill hopes to keep the good times going in South Beach.

“I love Miami. “I love it all,” Hill remarked during an appearance on the Around The Bar podcast, according to Dolphins Wire. “My wife, my children, and my mother all enjoy it. It’s simply a great city to live in, man. There are so many things to do.

“I’d prefer to retire in Miami, but we all know how the NFL works, how jobs are filled, and how people advance over here, and — you know — we understand that. But Miami is an excellent place, man. I adore the team I play for, the men in the locker room, the head coach, and the general manager. So, yes, sign me. I adore all of you, and I wish I could stay in Miami forever. “Keep me there.”

Hill isn’t going anywhere in the immediate term as the Dolphins prepare for another playoff push. The recent addition of Odell Beckham Jr. to a one-year incentive-laden contract is intended to improve the offence around Hill, not replace him by any means.

You never know what future seasons will hold for a 30-year-old receiver whose game is built on speed. Certainly, few expected the Chiefs to trade Hill to Miami in 2022.

Hill is under contract with Miami for the next three seasons, but he might push for a new deal as early as next year. Beginning in 2025, his contract will no longer include any guaranteed money. If things get sticky, like they did in Kansas City, the Dolphins may try to move on as early as next season.

Hill’s contract expires in 2026 at an inflated value of $43.9 million basic salary and $56.3 million salary cap. It is safe to presume Hill will not play in 2026. Either an extension within the next two years will reduce that sum and grant Hill’s request to stay in Miami for the remainder of his career, or the Dolphins will move on and save $45 million on the cap.

Whatever happens over the following few seasons, Hill intends to scorch defensive backs until he is unable to wheel.

When asked about retiring, Hill replied, “I’m trying to use these legs until they don’t work any longer.”
