In the recent NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected former University of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the tenth overall choice.
McCarthy was widely expected to join the Vikings, especially after Kirk Cousins left for the Atlanta Falcons this offseason.
As predicted, questions abound about McCarthy’s readiness to be a professional quarterback and his ability to handle the punishment that NFL defences will dish out.
During a recent interview, the quarterback assured Minnesota supporters that he is in top shape to handle the demands of the NFL.
“I’m in NFL shape two weeks before today,” McCarthy remarked. “I was prepared so I didn’t have to get ready…””I’m definitely in shape.”
McCarthy started 28 games in college and lost only one.
Following the Wolverines’ 12-1 record in 2022, the quarterback led the team to a perfect 15-0 record and the national championship in 2023.
McCarthy passed for more over 5,700 yards in both seasons and ran for 508 yards.
Several media members have worried that he will be unable to run the ball as frequently in the pros, but the Vikings value McCarthy’s ability to be elusive.
Minnesota’s current plan is to start veteran Sam Darnold in 2024 as McCarthy watches from the bench.
However, coaches frequently succumbed to temptation and began their rookies when they felt their squad needed a change.
It remains to be seen if head coach Kevin O’Connor will take the same approach.
