The Minnesota Vikings selected J.J. McCarthy, a former quarterback for the University of Michigan, with the 10th overall pick in the recent NFL Draft.
McCarthy’s signing by the Vikings was long anticipated, particularly after the team allowed Kirk Cousins to depart for the Atlanta Falcons during the summer.
As anticipated, there are many doubts regarding McCarthy’s readiness for the NFL and his ability to take the beating that NFL defenses will inflict on him.
The signal-caller reassured Minnesota supporters in a recent interview that he is well-suited to withstand the demands of the NFL.

McCarthy declared, “Two weeks before today, I’m in NFL shape.” “I didn’t have to get ready since I was staying ready…I’m definitely in shape.
McCarthy started 28 games while in college and only lost once.
The quarterback guided the team to a perfect 15-0 record in 2023 and the national championship after the Wolverines finished 12-1 in 2022.
In both seasons, McCarthy carried for 508 yards and tossed the ball for nearly 5,700 yards total.
Though many in the media have predicted that he won’t be able to run the ball as frequently in the NFL, McCarthy’s ability to evade detection is something the Vikings value.
Currently, Minnesota’s plan is to start veteran Sam Darnold in 2024 and let McCarthy soak in the game from the sidelines. However, coaches frequently succumbed to temptation and started their rookies when they believed their team needed a change. It remains to be seen whether head coach Kevin O’Connell will follow the same path.
