Bryson Stott hit a go-ahead three-run triple in the sixth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 8-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Stott went 2-for-5 with four RBIs as the Phillies, who lead the National League (28-12), won for the 13th time in 15 games.
For the first time this season, the Phillies were without designated hitter Kyle Schwarber, who was resting a strained back. He is tied with Bryce Harper for the team lead in home runs, with nine.
Miami, which has dropped five straight games, was paced by Vidal Brujan, who blasted his first home run as a Marlin. Otto Lopez of Miami hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning, trailing 8-1.
Taijuan Walker (3-0) of the Philadelphia Phillies received the win, allowing eight hits, one walk, and one run in six innings.
The Marlins, who have the worst record in the majors (10-31), struggled on the bases. Two Marlins, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Brujan, were caught stealing, and left fielder Cristian Pache threw out Nick Gordon while attempting to extend a single into a double.
Jesus Luzardo, a Marlins left-hander who hasn’t worked since April 20 due to an elbow issue, took the loss. Luzardo (0-3) kept the Phillies scoreless through the first five innings. He allowed four hits, one walk, and two runs over 5 2/3 innings.
Miami scored first in the fifth inning when Brujan blasted a 406-foot home run to right centre.
Philadelphia took the lead in the sixth. Whit Merrifield opened the rally with a one-out double, and J.T. Realmuto added an RBI single. Luzardo then struck out Harper, but was removed after throwing 79 pitches in his first game back off the injured list.
The Phillies got to reliever Anthony Maldonado when Alec Bohm singled and Nick Castellanos walked before Stott cleared the bases with his triple.
Philadelphia added four more runs in the eighth inning against reliever Burch Smith. Stott and Pache each had RBI singles, while Johan Rojas added a two-run single.
