“To the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders, thank you,” Wilson posted on Instagram on May 11. “You gave myself, Lai Lai, and my wife an event that we will never forget.
“To all of my coaches and teammates over the years, I formed remarkable ties and friendships. Thank you for helping me grow into the man/athlete I am today.”
He never played a snap for the Raiders, but he spent most of the 2022 season on the practice squad and briefly on the active roster. Wilson’s last team was Las Vegas, and he never signed with any team for the 2023 season. He’s only 31, so he may be able to play again, but he’d rather move on from football and pursue other interests.
Why Hasn’t Hunter Renfrow Signed anywhere?
Hunter Renfrow, a veteran at wide receiver, was released this offseason, forcing the Raiders to move on. He was excellent in 2021, with 103 catches for 1,038 yards and a Pro Bowl selection.
The Raiders rewarded him with a two-year contract extension that offseason, but he did not achieve the same heights as in 2021. He totaled 585 receiving yards over the last two seasons and was essentially non-existent in the Raiders offence.
Renfrow is only 28, but he hasn’t looked like the same talent over the last two seasons. His legendary route running appears to have waned, and he’s not fast enough to get away. That is most likely why he remains a free agent. Teams are constantly looking for wide receiver help, so it’s surprising that Renfrow is still unsigned.
His price is likely to be cheap, thus there is little risk in signing him. Perhaps teams are waiting until after June 1, when a large amount of cap space will become available throughout the league. It’s difficult to believe Renfrow will not find a team to play for next season.
Are Las Vegas Raiders? Set at WR?
If tight end Brock Bowers is used as a wide receiver, the Raiders could have a significant advantage. Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers form a formidable tandem, while Tre Tucker is a quick deep threat. The team also added Michael Gallup, who might be a good No. 3 wide receiver.
The squad does not appear to have a specialized slot receiver, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the Raiders used Bowers in that role frequently. Meyers also has extensive experience in the spot. Las Vegas has some promising young talent and proven veterans at wide receiver, so the position is in terrific shape. The sole concern is who will toss them the ball. The Raiders do not have a clear starter yet, but Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew are expected to compete this offseason.
