The Miami football team is the second favourite for four-star Edwardsville, Illinois defensive lineman Iose Epenesa, trailing only Iowa, with a June 22 visit to Coral Gables. Epenesa is an Iowa legacy. Epenesa’s brother, A.J., was named first-team All-Big Ten in both 2018 and 2019.
According to his father Eppy’s post on X, Epenesa has arranged five official visits, the last of which is to Miami. Penn State is first, with an official visit from Epenesa on the weekend of May 18, followed by Missouri on the weekend of June 1, Iowa on June 8, Utah on June 15, and finally Miami.
Epenesa is on the verge of becoming a five-star talent. According to 247Sports, Epenesa is the 37th prospect, sixth defensive lineman, and second-best player in Illinois for the 2025 class. Miami is on the verge of recruiting a top defensive lineman from Illinois for the second year in a row.
Miami signed Illinois’ top two DL in the 2024 class, tackle Justin Scott and edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot. Lightfoot and Scott were both five-star recruits. Edwardsville is located in Illinois, across the Mississippi River from St. Louis. Lightfoot and Scott are from Chicago.
Elijah Melendez, a four-star linebacker, is Miami’s only 2025 defensive commit. Epenesa would be a significant addition to the top 2024 DL class. Miami also added Armondo Blount, a five-star versatile defensive lineman, and numerous top edge rushers. Brock Schott, a four-star tight end, is presently the top-ranked 2024 Miami commit.
Iowa is the favourite to receive a commitment from Epenesa, with a 32.2 percent likelihood. Miami is second at 20.3%, while Missouri is third at 14.0%. Nobody other is above 9.0 percent. Epenesa has already made unauthorized visits to Miami. Epenesa’s most recent visit to Miami occurred in March.
