Saints Breaking News: The Saints announced an important update for rookies and veterans seeking to make the roster.

The games played initially are sometimes overlooked in the entire NFL schedule release. That’s right, we’re discussing the preseason. There are only three of them left, yet position battles can be won and lost during exhibition games.

The New Orleans Saints will play two away games in the preseason after facing nine home games and eight road games during the regular season. Two of the three will be against NFC teams.

New Orleans announced its three-game preseason schedule Wednesday night, along with the regular season schedule. Let’s go over the Saints’ upcoming exhibition games in August.

These 54 New Orleans Saints players are under contract for 2024 season

Week 1: TBD, Saints @ Arizona Cardinals (FOX)
New Orleans begins their preseason schedule with Kyler Murray and Arizona. It will be fascinating to watch how much playing time the Saints’ starters get.

Derek Carr played only one preseason game last year. Jake Haener and Jameis Winston took quarterback reps for the remainder of the preseason. Carr may see increased playing time in exhibitions as a result of Klint Kubiak’s new offensive plan. The first quarter of this game may provide the finest glimpse into what the offence may look like in 2024.

Week 2: August 18th @ 8 p.m. ET, Saints vs San Francisco 49ers (FOX)
This matchup will undoubtedly be different from the first. Carr and the offense’s starters may receive some reps, but this game should mark the start of the most critical positional battles for depth players.

Rookies and newly acquired veterans in free agency will compete to prove their worth on the roster. The 49ers are one of the league’s best teams, and their depth will be tested here.

Week 3: TBD, Tennessee Titans @ Saints (FOX)
This game is the penultimate opportunity for rookies to establish themselves as potential contributors in year one.

Don’t anticipate many, if any, starters to play more than a few snaps, and Carr, Olave, Kamara, and others are unlikely to dress for this one. They will rest before facing the Carolina Panthers in Week 1.
