TJ Hockenson, the Minnesota Vikings’ tight end, presented an update on his surgically repaired right knee on Friday, noting that he has made good progress but still has a long way to go. Hockenson, the Detroit Lions’ eighth overall choice in 2019, suffered ACL and MCL injuries in a Week 16 defeat to Detroit and had surgery postponed until Jan. 29 due to swelling.
“They (the team) haven’t really put a timeline on it,” Hockenson said this week, per NFL Media. “We’re just taking things day by day, week by week.” There are just so many variables to consider during this procedure.I’m doing extremely well right now.
We are addressing each process. I’m attacking each one, and it’s been great. “The progress has been incredible.” NFL.com reported that Hockenson might miss the first few weeks of the season, but the two-time Pro Bowler could be ready to fly to London for a Week 5 game against the New York Jets.
The Lions traded Hockenson to Minnesota during the 2022 season, where he had 60 catches for 519 yards and three scores in 10 games with the Vikings.
He became an important part of the Minnesota offence last season, recording 95 receptions for 960 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games before his season was cut short. Hockenson’s four-year, $66 million contract continues until 2027. On Thursday, the team signed Robert Tonyan, a veteran tight end.
