Earlier this week, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry added Alabama transfer Khurtiss Perry to the defensive depth chart for coordinator Chris Marve. With one more free roster place for the 2024 season, the Hokies filled it Saturday night by adding another player to Marve’s squad.
Kaleb Spencer of Miami has committed to Virginia Tech through the transfer portal.
Talk about adding depth to a unit via the transfer portal. Miami’s Kaleb Spencer committed to the Hokies on Saturday night, completing the roster for the fall in Blacksburg. Spencer played 11 games for the Hurricanes as a true freshman last season, largely on Miami’s special teams unit, but he also spent time at linebacker.
Spencer, from Colonial Heights, Virginia, will join a unit that includes returners Mansoor Delane, Dorian Strong, and Jalen Stroman, as well as younger players Mose Phillips and Jaylen Jones in the secondary.
Spencer is Pry’s fifth signing, with five on the defensive side of the ball for Marve. He joins linemen Aeneas Peebles (Duke), Kelvin Gilliam (Oklahoma), Sam Brumfield (Middle Tennessee State), and Perry. On the offensive side, UCLA quarterback Collin Schlee and Georgia State tackle Montavious Cunningham will join an already talented offensive unit.
Virginia Tech already has one of the deepest depth charts in the ACC, and they added seven more players through the portal. Marve and offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen should have plenty of choices on both sides of the ball this fall. Pry is still hard at work updating the portal in preparation for the new season.
