Texas Rangers slugger Adolis García was removed from the starting lineup on Sunday and was receiving an MRI on his right forearm, a day after a collision in the outfield with second baseman Marcus Semien while both All-Stars were going after a popup.
According to manager Bruce Bochy, García, the team’s primary right fielder, was set to be the designated hitter in the series finale against the Los Angeles Angels.
“The right forearm area took a pretty good shot there from Marcus, so he’ll get checked out,” Bochy stated before the game. “We’ll get an MRI and assess where we are at. I’m hoping that after the day off, he’ll be ready to go.”
The Rangers have Monday off before a three-game series at Philadelphia.
In the sixth inning, Semien ran out and García came in to catch Taylor Ward’s ball to shallow right field. Semien collided with García, who had taken a knee to retrieve a dropped ball. Semien had a severe fall, but both players remained in the game and helped the Rangers win 3-2 in 13 innings.
García, the AL Championship Series MVP last year, launched his 11th homer of the season in the sixth inning, tying the game 1-1. This season, he is hitting.251 and has 35 RBIs, which ranks fourth in the American League.
