A former New Orleans Saints running back retired.
David Johnson announced his departure from the league via an Instagram post on Sunday. He thanked the Cardinals for drafting him.
Who knew this boy would be the first professional athlete to emerge from small-town Clinton, Iowa? Chasing a dream when all but two D1AA college coaches thought I was qualified for a scholarship. I am grateful to the Cardinals for selecting me in the third round 🙏🏾. My NFL career has been off to a fast start! After only two games, my uniform and cleats have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

“There have been highs and lows, but I’ve felt extremely blessed and honoured by the people who have helped me along the way. I’ll never forget the bonds and brotherhoods I’ve built with so many of my dawgs. I’ll miss the locker room, dining hall, and pre-meeting mood. Guys from all origins, ethnicities, difficulties, and countries discuss many facets of life while joking.

When all is said and done, I aim to have had a positive impact on at least one individual both on and off the field. I hope I was able to pay it forward to the innumerable people who mentored and taught me the proper way to do business, by giving back with integrity and humility! And to the various coaches that helped me improve my talents in playing this sport. I am eternally grateful to you!”

Finally, I could not have done any of this without God’s grace! He did it all so that a poor child may have the opportunity that most others do not have. I’m excited about my next job path. I’m not sure what it will be, but I’m hoping it will fill me with the same passion, excitement, and love as football did!
