Red Bull has offered Sergio Perez a new contract but has rejected his counter-offer, according to Mexican media sources.
The Mexican driver has impressed this season, despite entering the year under tremendous pressure to retain the second Red Bull.
Perez’s contract expires this season, and Red Bull understands that their car is prized by great drivers from all around the paddock.
However, Perez’s performances apparently persuaded them to keep him – at least for one year.
Red Bull has offered Perez a one-year contract for the 2025 season, according to Fox Sports Mexico.
However, Perez has responded with a counter-proposal for a two-year deal, which Red Bull has rejected.
“The team already has the contract, it is for one year,” according to reports from Perez’s home nation.
“They presented it to Checo, who said,’mmm, we have to review it’…
“Checo’s lawyers are in that process, but Checo submitted a two-year counterproposal to which, immediately, Red Bull said no.”
However, the deal is not over.
An agreement might yet be reached for one year with the option of a second year.
Following the F1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner spoke with great care about Perez’s future.
“The whole driver market is playing itself out and we know exactly where we are at and what our options are,” Horner stated.
“We’ll make future decisions at the appropriate time for us.
When questioned about negotiating a contract with Perez, Horner responded: “Checo’s always been a very straightforward guy to deal with, so I wouldn’t expect that to be an issue.”
Perez had four podium finishes this season, each with colleague Verstappen winning the grand prix, giving a dream result for their business.
