JUST IN: Saints GM Mickey Loomis Shares a Surprising Update On Las Vegas Raiders Top Experienced Star Amidst Free Agency

Andrus Peat has been a mainstay of the New Orleans Saints’ offensive line for the past decade. After being drafted by the team in 2015, Peat went on to start 102 of the 111 games he appeared in over the next nine seasons. However, his time in New Orleans has come to an end.

Peat signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency this offseason, extending his 10-year career. With Peat in Vegas, the Saints will continue to use many veteran linemen added this offseason, as well as Taliese Fuaga, who was picked 14th overall.

Given the state of New Orleans’ offensive line heading into the offseason, several argued that the Saints should try to re-sign Peat. Apparently, the organization supported that argument. On Monday, general manager Mickey Loomis confirmed that the organization attempted to get Peat back.

Saints attempted to re-sign Andrus Peat before he joined the Raiders.

From the outside, it appeared that New Orleans was content with Peat going on. After the veteran tackle became a free agency, there was little talk about other clubs attempting to sign him. Because of this, it appeared that the Saints could have re-signed Peat if they wanted to, as he was still in free agency.

According to Loomis, this was not the case. Loomis claims the franchise wanted Peat back, but Peat was seeking for a new beginning. He had a fresh start in Las Vegas with the Raiders. This is an interesting development for New Orleans.

Typically, a fresh start means this team offered me more money, which could have been the case. It’s also conceivable that Peat simply wanted a fresh start. However, the fact that a veteran who spent his entire nine-year career with the Saints has elected to start over with another franchise is also cause for concern. Is that indicative of the Saints’ current state, or is it simply a reflection of Peat’s relationship with them? In any case, Peat has left the team, despite New Orleans’ desire for him to return.
