With the arrival of edge rusher Tyler Baron on Tuesday night, the Miami football team became the fifth program in the nation to have top ten recruiting and transfer classes in 2024. Miami signed the fourth-best 2024 class and now has the tenth-ranked transfer class with the addition of Baron.
According to 247Sports, Baron is the 72nd-ranked transfer and the 10th-best edge rusher in the 2024 portal. Miami already signed Marshall transfer edge rusher Elijah Alston. Miami will have one of the strongest edge rushing groups in the country, with returning players Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor at the position.
Baron had his greatest collegiate season in 2023, totaling 28 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, 2.0 passes deflected, and one forced fumble. Miami could move Bain and Mesidor inside on passing downs while keeping Alston and Baron on the edge to create a strong pass rush.
Miami now has the second-highest transfer class in the ACC. Florida State ranks sixth nationally and first in the ACC. Miami has 15 new transfers, and Florida State has 17. Baron is the ACC’s fourth-highest ranked transfer edge rusher. Marvin Jones Jr. of Florida State is first.
Baron is Miami’s 15th transfer signing, sixth this spring, and tenth on defence for the 2024 roster. Almost all of Miami’s transfers will have the opportunity to compete for first-team snaps during August training camp. Some of the incoming transfers offer much-needed depth to Miami’s 2024 roster.
Miami has been widely praised for signing the greatest 2024 DL class. The transfer class may match the 2024 freshmen. In addition to Alston, Miami signed transfer defensive tackles Simeon Barrow from Michigan State, C.J. Clark from North Carolina State, and Marley Cook from Middle Tennessee.
Joe Salave’a and Jason Taylor, Miami’s defensive line coaches, have done an outstanding job collecting talent over the last year. Taylor was the third-best recruiter in the 2024 class. This does not include transfers. Miami should have an exceptional defensive line in 2024.
