Tyler Baron, a former Tennessee football defensive lineman, is on the road again. Baron transferred out of the Tennessee football program in December, which surprised some. He was supposed to be the Vols’ edge rusher in 2024, with James Pearce Jr., but he had other ideas.
The former Vol has notoriously transferred to three colleges since December, with the University of Miami being his most recent destination. Before committing to Miami, he committed to Ole Miss in Tennessee before officially transferring to Louisville in the spring.
Louisville appeared to be only a stopgap for Baron to get through spring practices, since once the Cardinals’ spring season finished, Baron returned to the portal and elected to stay in the ACC by choosing Miami.
Baron was one of eight Vols who transferred out of the program in December, with another leaving this spring. Josh Heupel responded by bringing in eight transfers to replace the losing players, bolstering the defensive secondary and front seven.
After spending the previous four seasons at Rocky Top, Baron has transferred to Miami, his fourth school in six months. Former Tennessee defensive backs Wesley Walker and Tamarion McDonald joined Baron at Louisville this spring, although Walker has since committed to Michigan.
Baron is ranked No. 72 overall and No. 10 EDGE rusher on 247 Sports’ Transfer Portal. In 46 games with Tennessee, Baron recorded 101 tackles, 27.0 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks. He will now spend his fifth season of eligibility in Miami with Mario Cristobal’s team.
Miami is in year three of the Cristobal era and will attempt to win consecutive seasons after finishing 7-6 last year. Baron and the Hurricanes will open the 2024 season against a familiar adversary, Florida, in Week One.
