The Texas Longhorns added another preferred walk-on to their roster on Thursday with the commitment of Fort Worth All Saints running back Reid Watkins, who transferred from the Tulsa Golden Hurricane after earning his acceptance to Texas.
The 5’11, 195-pounder also had offers from Bethune-Cookman, Brown, Colgate, Houston, Navy, New Mexico State, and Troy, as well as preferred walk-ons at Rice, TCU, and UTSA.
Watkins, a three-star prospect according to On3 and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, is taking advantage of the walk-on berth left open by the transfer of running back Ky Woods, who committed to Nevada, and former co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Jeff Choate. So, while Watkins received other FBS offers and has a comparable profile to other former walk-ons who gained scholarships at Texas, such as linebackers Luke Brockermeyer and Jett Bush, the running back position will not provide the same level of promise for the Longhorns.

Watkins claimed a 4.52 40-yard sprint, 4.17 shuttle, and 35-inch vertical leap prior to moving to All Saints from Brock.
