Miami and head coach Mario Cristobal made a significant transfer portal addition on Tuesday, which piqued the nation’s interest. Former Tennessee EDGE Tyler Baron committed to the Hurricanes on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound EDGE will have one season of eligibility left.
Baron last played for Tennessee during the 2023 season before transferring to Ole Miss in December. He only spent a month at Oxford before transferring to Louisville in January.
Between 2020 and 2023, the edge rusher recorded 101 total tackles, 27 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks with the Volunteers. Last season, he finished second on the squad in sacks, trailing James Pearce Jr.
The Reese’s Senior Bowl named him a midseason All-American. In addition, he was named to the third-team Preseason All-SEC.
The Hurricanes have performed well in the portal. Former Washington State quarterback Cam Ward, Washington safety Mishael Powell, and Middle Tennessee State defensive lineman Marley Cook are among Miami’s transfer commitments.
Fans swarmed social media with reactions to Baron’s pledge to Miami. Some thought Miami should be a lock for the College Football Playoff this season, while others banded together to express their disgust with the decision.
