On Saturday, after being booted from a game against the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy made sure he got his money’s worth.
Bochy was upset after Twins infielder Edouard Julien appeared to strike out on a foul tip, only for the umpires to reverse the ruling and say Rangers catcher Jonah Heim did not grab the foul tip before it touched the dirt. Bochy was furious and was removed by crew chief Laz Diaz when he came out to argue.
Following his ejection, Bochy was determined to get his money’s worth. He also handed Diaz his spectacles to assist the umpire see more clearly.
It’s no surprise Bochy was unhappy. Heim appeared to catch the tip, which would have resulted in a strikeout. Instead, Julien drew a walk, which led to a Minnesota run. The Twins rallied for three more runs in the eighth inning to win 5-3.
Bochy generally maintains his composure, but not here. He can take comfort in the fact that he isn’t the only manager that has a fight with Diaz.
