After the Yankees’ 8-0 victory against the San Diego Padres on Friday night, slugger Juan Soto placed a letter on the right field grass for his former teammate Fernando Tatis Jr.
Tatis snatched it up and seemed to laugh.
Soto refused to reveal the contents of the memo, saying only, “It was something cool.” He appreciated it because when I hit the double, he laughed at me.”
Soto launched a two-run home run in the third inning of his first game in San Diego since the Padres traded him to the Yankees in a seven-player deal on December 7. Padres fans booed him, while Yankees fans praised him at Petco Park. Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton also launched no-doubt home runs off Yu Darvish in the third, while Gleyber Torres homered to start the fourth.
Soto doubled in the ninth.
Soto was acquired by the Padres on August 2, 2022, in an eight-player trade with Washington.
