According to On3, the Miami football school is pursuing four-star cornerback Chris Ewald before his June 27 commitment. On Thursday night, Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U and Tom Loy of their parent business 247Sports reported that Ewald will make official trips to Miami and Georgia before making his commitment announcement.
According to 247Sports’ aggregate rankings, Ewald is the 168th prospect, 21st CB, and 24th player in Florida for the 2025 class. Ewald will make an official visit to Miami on the weekend of June 14 and Georgia on June 21. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Miami has an 86.4 percent chance of acquiring Ewald’s commitment.
There are no 247Sports crystal balls recorded for Ewald. Nearly six months after committing to Michigan, Ewald decommitted after Jim Harbaugh left to become head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers in January. According to 247Sports, Ewald had planned visits to Penn State and Louisville, but they appear to have been cancelled.
In three years at Chaminade-Madonna, Ewald had 100 tackles, one tackle for loss, seven interceptions, and 32 passes defended (all in the last two years, according to Max Preps). Miami presently has six 2025 commitments. Miami has had one defensive player committed for 2025: four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez.
Miami is expected to prioritize CB in the 2025 recruiting class. Romanus Frederique was Miami’s lone signed CB in the 2024 class. Dylan Day was signed as a safety, but will play cornerback for Miami. Miami will lose starting cornerback. Daryl Porter Jr. and Washington will move Mishael Powell from the secondary following the 2024 season.
Freshmen will get the opportunity to play cornerback for Miami in 2024. Mario Cristobal and his staff have demonstrated a willingness to play freshmen. Damari Brown started the last three games at cornerback in 2023. According to Andrew Ivins of 247Sports, Ewald is equally “versed in both press-man and off-man coverage” and is a willing tackler.
