The majority of the news surrounding Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton this offseason has not been encouraging. Sutton has made it plain that he is dissatisfied with his present contract situation, and he is “holding out” of optional OTAs to demonstrate it. While away from the team complex, Sutton has been working out in Florida to keep in condition for the season, while the Broncos have been preparing their first-round quarterback, Bo Nix.
This offseason’s saga surrounding Sutton has included “cryptic” remarks on social media, a contract issue, his absence from voluntary OTAs, and all of this has occurred on top of the team losing a number of other key leaders. Having said that, the Broncos have made it clear that they do not intend to trade Sutton, and both sides’ message has been muddled at best.
Are the Broncos going to agree to Sutton’s contract demands? Does he really want to be in Denver? Can we expect to see him in orange and blue this season? Will they have to accept less in a trade now that the writing is on the wall? Is Bo Nix passing up important opportunities to develop chemistry with Sutton? Is the team concerned about this at all?
Regardless of how you feel about the Sutton situation, one of the biggest disappointments of the summer was when the team unveiled new jerseys and Sutton was not included. Everyone was surprised that a player who has been so vital to this squad in recent years would miss out on something so historic. Sutton’s absence from that specific event spoke volumes.
As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
The Broncos recently casually revealed an amazing bombshell of a photo, including a vital feature that you may have overlooked at first glance. I know I did.
Do you see that? This is a photoshop of kicker Wil Lutz wearing the new uniforms.
Obviously, wide receiver Courtland Sutton is in the centre of the photo, wearing the new Broncos outfit for the first time. This is one of the most significant recent developments involving the team’s top receiver, even if it does not appear to be a major concern. Sutton was not featured in the initial uniform release. His appearance in that photograph, however, is a positive indicator.
Not only that, but Sutton himself took to Twitter/X to post this after it was revealed that Broncos veterans Steve Foley and Riley Odoms will be inducted into the Ring of Fame this year…
To avoid reading too much into something, take note of the present tense Sutton uses in that tweet. He stated that “has” was always one of his aims in order to reach the Ring of Fame, not “had”.
So Sutton has taken to social media to speak about the Broncos in the present tense. We have the squad include him in a social media post while wearing the new outfits. And head coach Sean Payton has stated on numerous occasions that he is not concerned about Sutton’s status and has maintained touch with him.
Perhaps we can anticipate Sutton to return to Denver sooner rather than later.
