The offseason is nearing its conclusion, with OTAs beginning and training camp approaching. However, the New Orleans Saints secured a vital piece of their 2024 NFL Draft class just before the weekend.
In the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Saints added a top-tier defensive player. He’s currently under contract.
The Saints signed second-round cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry on Friday.
As the tweet points out, that’s the whole draft class inked for New Orleans. Second-round picks are usually the last to sign due to negotiations, but the two parties worked it out for the defensive back.
McKinstry expects to see action on defence and special teams in his first year. He has return experience and can play both inside and outside as a cornerback. His ceiling is pretty high, and he has the potential to become a major member of the Saints defence for many years.
McKinstry, 5-11, 199, was New Orleans’ second-round (41st overall) pick out of Alabama. In three seasons (2021-23) with the Crimson Tide, he recorded 92 tackles (61 solo), two interceptions, and 25 passes defence. During his two years (2022-23) as Alabama’s primary punt returner, he returned 35 punts for 418 yards (11.9 average).
Outside of the term, the specifics of his agreement remain unknown. The rookie signed a four-year contract.
