The New Orleans Saints have big expectations for wide receiver Chris Olave, who is entering his third year in the NFL. Olave has already had two excellent seasons in the league, but the squad is eager for him to take things to the next level. With Michael Thomas no longer in New Orleans, Olave will begin the season as the Saints’ undisputed No. 1 receiver.
During OTAs, head coach Dennis Allen discussed his expectations for Olave, and he was very clear that he will expect much more from the young receiver in his third season. Allen began by stating that the team has high hopes for Olave and believes he can provide much more. He went on to remark that Olave can improve his contested catch, run after reception, and general consistency from game to game.
Finally, Allen stated that the Saints hold Olave to the level of an outstanding NFL receiver, and Olave is likely doing the same for himself.
The Saints are ready for Chris Olave to make the step to become an outstanding receiver.
As a rookie, Olave appeared in 15 games and caught 72 passes on 119 targets for 1,042 yards and four touchdowns. In year two, Olave appeared in 16 games and was targeted 138 times, catching 87 passes for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns. Two respectable seasons and a great start to a career, but there is still possibility for substantial growth in production.
Fortunately for Olave, he will finally start a season with the same quarterback as the prior year. Derek Carr and Olave began to form a closer bond late last season, and the idea is that the rapport will continue into 2024. With Olave likely to be the focal point of the passing game, the link must undoubtedly continue and get stronger.
