The Denver Broncos began their annual organized team activities two weeks ago, but this time without former third-round tight end Greg Dulcich, who is recovering from a foot injury sustained during the 2023 season. According to Mike Klis of 9News, the 24-year-old tight end had surgery earlier this offseason to correct a foot ailment.
Klis stated that the procedure occurred “well before” the start of NFL free agency in March, implying that Dulcich has had plenty of time to recover from the surgery. Dulcich, whom the Broncos selected with the 80th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is coming off back-to-back season-ending injuries and is allegedly unhappy by his lack of availability during his first two seasons.
Despite still suffering from a foot ailment, Dulcich is anticipated to return “soon” according to head coach Sean Payton, and he will still have a chance to start for Denver. However, with the emergence of tight end Lucas Krull, this will not be as simple as in prior years. Krull was a standout during the team’s first week of OTA workouts and appeared to be the leader in the clubhouse, earning the starting spot.
As a result, in order for Dulcich to return to his original projection as an AFC star tight end, he must first overcome Krull.
In his debut season, Dulcich caught 33 catches for 411 yards and two scores in only six games. His talent and athleticism as a tight end are evident, and his performance on the field has never been questioned. Unfortunately, Dulcich’s injuries have been the only legitimate cause for concern.
Following the revelation that he had foot surgery, as well as several hamstring tweaks he has suffered with over the last two seasons, there is compelling evidence that the Broncos should begin depending on other players at the position on the roster.
