DEAL AGREED: MLB and Mets Top Insiders Reveals Yankees Are on The Verge of Landing Mets First Baseman -Deal Already Agreed

The New York Mets may be trading first baseman Pete Alonso sooner rather than later.

Trade rumours surrounded Alonso during the offseason, but the Mets were unwilling to negotiate a move. Not only did the Amazins hope to improve in 2023, but they also hoped to extend Alonso if feasible. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets offered its first baseman a seven-year, $158 million contract in June.

Mets' Pete Alonso off to slow start offensively
After a terrible 9-18 May, the Mets have returned to becoming sellers. Alonso, who has a.239/.313/.473 hitting line with 13 home runs and 14 doubles in 252 plate appearances as of Monday, is easily their most valuable trade piece.
He will also be on the trading block. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, while the Mets have yet to begin trading players, Alonso, J.D. Martinez, and Luis Severino, among others, will be available.

Alonso will be one of the most prominent names available at the trade deadline.
New York Yankees

The Yankees and Mets have traded 17 times since the Mets began play in 1962. The most significant transaction between the two teams occurred in 2001, when outfielder David Justice was traded to the Mets in exchange for third baseman Robin Ventura. Sending Pete Alonso to the Yankees, however unlikely, would become the most major transaction between the two New York teams.

Mets' Pete Alonso heads to 3rd-career All-Star game

Anthony Rizzo has been unable to regain the form he had before his concussion difficulties in 2023. His.240/.301/.360 batting performance with seven home runs and six doubles in 246 plate appearances is insufficient. The Yankees, who want to bring the World Series back to the Bronx, must first find a better option. It may be a distant shot, but Alonso may be exactly what they need.
