Phillies place OF Brandon Marsh on injured list with right hamstring strain
Bruce Bochy, manager of the Texas Rangers, was absent from Monday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers due to what the team described as a “scheduled personal matter.” Will Venable, an associate manager, was due to take over the club on Monday. “Obviously, there is no replacing ‘Boch’ and who he is, but we will all step up our game and, hopefully, get it done for him,” Venable stated during his pregame availability.
Bochy is anticipated back for Tuesday’s game against the Tigers. Monday was the first game Bochy had missed in his more than a year as Rangers manager. He led Texas to its first World Series championship in franchise history last season, his fourth as a manager, the other three with the San Francisco Giants.
Bochy, 69, is in his 27th season as a manager, with a 2,122-2,131 regular-season record. He also managed the San Diego Padres (1995-2006) and Giants (2007-19), before Rangers general manager Chris Young enticed him out of retirement ahead to the 2023 season.
