NASCAR driver Erik Jones was involved in a nasty incident at Talladega on Sunday during the Geico 500, resulting in a broken bone in his back.
The broken lower vertebra will lead him to miss the next race at Dover Motor Speedway, Legacy Motor Club stated on Tuesday. Corey Heim will drive Jones’ No. 43 Toyota.
“Erik’s long-term health is our number one priority,” Legacy Motor Club co-owner Jimmie Johnson stated. “It will be lovely to see him at the track on Sunday, and we want to give him the time he needs to recover properly.
“I know Corey will do an excellent job behind the wheel for the Club. In the meantime, our thoughts are with Erik and his wife Holly, who have our full support.

Jones was engaged in an accident that initially involved John Hunter Nemechek and Bubba Wallace. Jones was thrown hard into the wall.
He allegedly complained about his back on his radio shortly after the crash.
Jones spoke briefly with reporters after being freed from the in-field care centre. He stated that he felt a “little sore” but otherwise fine. NASCAR later announced that he was hospitalized for further evaluation and then discharged.
He returned home to Charlotte, North Carolina, where the broken back was diagnosed.
