BRAVE LATEST NEWS: Brave HC Brian Gerald Snitker Issues A Shocking Call Up 2023 First-Rounder to Make MLB Debut Sunday

The Atlanta Braves want to promote Hurston Waldrep, the team’s first-round pick in the 2023 draft, to make his major league debut Sunday against the Washington Nationals.
Waldrep will start the final game of the four-game series, shifting left-hander Max Fried to the opener of a three-game set in Baltimore on Tuesday night.

“It’s just like we’ve been doing all year, just giving guys extra days,” Braves manager Brian Snitker explained. “He had been throwing the ball fairly well. It was his time to toss. We’ll probably continue doing this throughout the year, giving these guys more days off. We’re trying to keep everyone healthy and upright while we wind things down.”

Waldrep, a Thomasville, Georgia native, was the 24th pick in last year’s draft after spending two seasons at Southern Mississippi and one at Florida. This season, he’s 3-5 with a 3.09 ERA in ten starts between Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett.

“I grew up a Braves fan,” Waldrep explained. “Just being able to put this uniform on, it will mean a lot.”
