NASCAR LATEST NEWS: NASCAR Chiefs And Sponsors Reacts to Ross Chastain Meeting With Fans Ahead of Food City 500

Ross Chastain, a NASCAR Cup Series driver, stopped into Food City in Blountville on Saturday morning to greet fans and stress the importance of safe driving.

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) staged the event in cooperation with Food City, with the goal of reminding the people to “use their melons” when driving. This includes simple measures like wearing a seat belt, driving sober, and remaining hands-free.

Chastain stated that he and his family drove to Blountville from their home in North Carolina on Saturday morning, and that he values safety both on and off the track.

“This is something that I’ve been promoting, safe driving, for several years through several different teams,” he stated. “And as I move through different teams and series, the messaging has remained consistent. It’s one of the longer programs I’ve participated in. So I’m doing it here in Bristol, where I drove over like everyone else.”

Along with the meet-and-greet with Chastain, a figure named Ollie Otter met children while Ballad Health performed car seat exams for families with young children. The THSO also brought its seat belt convincer, which allows guests to experience the impact of wearing a seat belt during a crash.

Chastain expressed excitement about racing on concrete at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“I’ve done a lot of dirt racing outside of NASCAR, but I enjoy ripping around the concrete. “Just so fast, so much grip, so much throttle time.”
