HUGE BLOW: Miami Football Has Officially Confirmed The First Commitment From 3-star CB

On Sunday, the Miami football program welcomed three-star cornerback Timothy Merritt as their seventh overall commitment and first defensive back in the 2025 recruiting class. Merritt is the 451st player, 37th CB, and 18th player in Alabama’s 2025 class, coming from Birmingham Parker.

Merritt stands 6’2″ and weighs 180 pounds, giving Miami plenty of length. Miami knocked out Arkansas and Tennessee for Merritt’s pledge. Merritt told Inside the U and CaneSport that the relationship he developed with Miami defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson was the most important reason he chose the Hurricanes.

According to Izubee Charles of CaneSport, Merritt still intends to make an official visit to Tennessee next weekend and Arkansas in two weeks. Merritt’s official visit to Coral Gables this weekend marked his first time viewing the Miami football program. According to On3, Merritt attended nine unofficial visits with five other programs.

Merritt had already made two unofficial trips to Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi, and Tennessee, with Arkansas hosting him once. Prior to Merritt’s pledge on Sunday, On3 predicted Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, and Auburn as the top contenders for the 2025 class. Merritt is Miami’s second defensive commitment. Elijah Melendez, a four-star linebacker, has been committed to Miami since December. Merritt was one of two CBs to make official trips to Coral Gables this weekend. Miami also hosted three-star cornerback Mark Manfred.

Merritt is primarily a cornerback but can also play safety. The duration that Merritt will give for Miami is significant. Miami is gaining length at CB. Sophomore Damari Brown and 2024 signee Dylan Day both stand 6’2. Miami’s future CB length will make opposition WRs face challenging matchups.
