Kyle Busch responded on Sunday night to his incident with Ross Chastain on the final lap of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California.
Busch and Chastain were competing for fifth place on the penultimate lap of the NASCAR Cup Series race. On the road course, Chastain’s No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Trackhouse Racing bumped Busch’s No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Richard Childress Racing. Busch slid sideways after making contact.
Busch regrouped but finished 12th in the race, with Chastain in fifth.
After the race, Busch spoke about what had happened.
“A handful of guys at the end of the race had better tires than us, but we knew we’d have a fantastic day. Unfortunately, one of those guys ran into us on the final lap, ruining our day. “It’s frustrating not to finish where we deserved,” Busch remarked afterward.
Chastain achieved his desired finish, while Busch did not receive the result he believed he deserved.
