Fortunately for Philadelphia, several guys are rising up big time. After All-Star shortstop Trea Turner suffered a serious injury, Edmund Sosa has emerged as an important element of the Phillies’ lineup. As of today, Sosa has a.880 OPS and a slash line of.290/.353/.523.
There are more positions on the Phillies roster that can be filled. Nick Castellanos, who signed one of the worst MLB contracts, with a season slash line of.215/.275/.360. Meanwhile, Johan Rojas (.577 OPS) and Cristian Pache (.588 OPS) have both struggled to produce. Unsurprisingly, it appears to be influencing the names Philadelphia is associated with in MLB trade rumours.
Phillies outfielders have a.649 OPS (24th in MLB) and a triple-slash line of.229/.292/.357.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies are keeping an eye on Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy, hoping he would become available at the MLB trade deadline.

He is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and is only owed the remainder of his $766,000 salary for the season. Another advantage for Philadelphia would be the length of the contract, as McCarthy is arbitration-eligible until his age-30 season in 2028.
Arizona, the defending National League champion, is currently out of the Major League Baseball playoff picture. Barring a miracle, the Diamondbacks might be sellers in July, and McCarthy would elicit strong trade interest from throughout the league.
McCarthy’s production and contract make him significantly more expensive than a half-season rental. However, for a team with one of the highest payrolls in baseball, his salary and team-friendly contract would be very advantageous. In addition, he may contribute to Philadelphia’s championship success.
