HUGE BLOW: Phillies Get Bad Injury News on All-Star Hitter Who is Officailly Set to Undergo Knee Surgery.

The MLB-best The Philadelphia Phillies have encountered a stumbling block.

The Phillies announced on Tuesday that catcher JT Realmuto has been placed on the disabled list due to right knee soreness. Realmuto is now slated to have surgery (a right knee meniscectomy) to address the problem, according to the team.

Realmuto, a three-time All-Star, is still one of the best players in the game at his position. This season, the 33-year-old has been hitting.261 with seven home runs and twenty RBIs. Realmuto, a two-time Gold Glover, has a solid defensive reputation behind the plate (though his numbers have dipped this season).

Philadelphia has a 45-20 record thus far in 2024, giving them a nine-game lead in the NL East (the biggest division lead in history). However, Realmuto’s injury, which appears to have the potential to keep him out until the All-Star break due to surgery, will put their depth to the test.

Garrett Stubbs and the freshly promoted Rafael Marchan will have to pick up the slack behind the plate if the Phillies are to recover from their latest All-Star player injury.
